FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

1. What are the benefits to hiring a videographer?

Past clients have said a dvd of their wedding is something they will cherish for years to come (see 'testimonials' page). Imagine how special it will be to show your children and grandchildren in the years ahead. And just think of all those funny and special moments that you may have missed during the actual ceremony and reception. Your special day is a big financial commitment, with a customized dvd you will be able to enjoy it time and time again.

2. Why should I pay for a pro video when my friends, parents or relatives can tape it with their camcorders?

A friend or a relative may have a pretty decent quality camcorder, but they probably don't have the training or experience as well as the equipment of a professional wedding videographer. As a professional wedding videographer, we have experience in shooting weddings and special events. There is only one chance to get it right. Special attention is paid to angles as well as content. And shooting the video is only a part of your final dvd. Training in non-linear editing, dvd authoring, and creativity in the customized menus result in a movie-like quality that will bring your memories to life.

3. Won’t the cameras be obtrusive and disruptive?

Ace of Hearts Media works hard to stay out of the lime light. We realize that it is YOUR special day, and you deserve to be the center of attention, not the camera crew. We make every effort to record your wedding unobtrusively and tastefully, using no lights at the ceremony, remaining as stationary and silent throughout as possible.

4. Aren't all wedding videographers the same?

Your final DVD will be the culmination of the skills of the videographer and the creativity of editing and dvd menus. Evaluate candidates based on their work, their references, and their unique style. The best way to come to a decision is to meet with your wedding videographer and discuss what your needs are. A price quote alone can result in hiring a wedding videographer that may not live up to your expectations.

5. How should I choose a videographer?

Evaluate your vendors for quality, experience and compatibility. Also, 2 cameras should be used for the ceremony. Ask your prospective wedding videographer what equipment he or she will use at your wedding, and specifically who will be operating that equipment. Ask to see a sample of that person’s work. Don’t merely watch promotional videos - ask to see actual competed weddings. See our packages page. We are confident we have a wedding package for you that will fit your budget.

6. How much do you video and how long will the video be?

At Ace of Hearts Media we will do our professional best to deliver a video to you that will hold your interest throughout the entire video. We know that your wedding dvd will be something you will want to watch over and over again. It has been our experience that you want to be able to look back and see as much of your day as possible. We capture the whole ceremony and all of the reception speeches. In most cases this will result in 2 to 2 1/2 hours of dvd time. A typical dvd will hold approximately 1 1/2 hours of video, thus a wedding package will often require two dvds - one for the Ceremony and the other for the Reception. Having the convenience of personalized menus (offered with our Platinum and Diamond packages) will allow you to easily skip through scenes without having to sit through the whole thing each time.

7. Will my photographer and a videographer work together?

Some photographers tend to step in front of the video camera cutting off a candid video shot. There may be times when the photographer feels it is imperative to do so. Talk to your photographer ahead of time about cooperating with your video professional. You made the decision to have both services and you deserve the best from both.

8. Should I sign a contract?

A contract protects both you and the wedding videographer and should be comprehensive and clear. Don’t hire any professional with merely a verbal agreement. A contract signed by both parties and the required downpayment reserves your wedding date.

9. What if my church has restrictions on video?

It is the client’s responsibility to find out if there are any restrictions on photography and videography wherever the event takes place and to notify us well in advance. Many churches and synagogues have guidelines, such as no flash photography.

We asks for access to the site of the ceremony at least 1 hour prior to the scheduled starting time in order to set up our cameras and microphones and to make a proper test of all the equipment. It is our experience that churches sometimes fail to schedule enough time between events, so be sure to find out exactly how much time you will have access to the site before and after the ceremony. Photographers, videographers, florists and other vendors need sufficient time to do their best work.

10. Are your prices negotiable?

We offer a number of Wedding Packages to fit your budget. We encourage you to shop around and compare, but please look at the actual work, don’t just shop by phone.

11. Will you attend the rehearsal?

We try to attend rehearsals, especially if we have not previously worked that location . It is important to meet the officiating minister to discuss setup spots and any special considerations during the ceremony. If the location is outside of a 30 Km radius of Charlottetown, mileage will have to be charged at a rate of .30/Km.

12. What should I look for in a professional videotape?

The production should be tightly and tastefully edited, making the video more enjoyable to watch than real time raw footage. Special effects should be enhancements to the production and not appear gimmicky". The DVD menus should be professional and personalized. The most important element to shop for is the actual wedding videographer, whose experience and talents are what you really want.

13. Should I provide a meal for the videographers?

We are on the job for sometimes up to 8 - 10 hours between the time we arrive at the church and the time we leave the reception. We would appreciate a meal if it can be arranged quickly and discretely, as we want to be ready to video all the action.

14. What about those obtrusive interviews?

We leave it up to you whether you want interviews or not. Usually we circulate before and after dinner and get comments from your guests. We never surprise the guests with a live mic, but approach them and ask if they have a few words to say.

15. When will I get my finished dvd?

Normal production time is 2-3 months after the event. We encourage everyone to gather all photos for the Photo Montage as well as all musical selections and have them to us before the wedding date, otherwise we find that if you wait until after the event to get these materials to us it results in unnecessary delays.

If you will be providing honeymoon pictures for the Honeymoon Slideshow, be sure to get them to us as soon after your honeymoon as possible.

16. What time does the videographer leave?

Depending on the package you select, we are flexible with time and stay on the job until we capture the video based on your package. We do, however, encourage you to have all your specially planned moments (ie. first waltz, throwing bouquet, cutting cake, etc.) completed before 10 pm.
